Nobody needs me to highlight how quickly time passes by — life does that easily enough. But upon arriving at the department earlier this morning, I was reminded by a fellow postgraduate student that our supervisor was away at a conference this week, and with that reminder a gentle nudge concerning the slow trickle of time that thwarts us al eventually.
Being away at a conference is not so odd where my supervisor is concerned, since he has been to a couple of conferences over the last few months. What was odd, however, was that this week's particular conference is the joint British Maths and British Applied Maths Colloquium in Liverpool.
Keen readers will recall that I attended this conference just under one year ago — and took some pictures whilst I was there. In fact, I was supposed to be going again this year to present some results of the work I've been involved with, but given the decision to leave my PhD, my supervisor and I thought it best not to attend, for a variety of reasons.
Where the trickle of time comes into it, then, concerns my fond memories of last year's BAMC and the realisation that I am likely never to experience anything similar again. With just under three months of my studies remaining, it is a pertinent reminder of the life I will be leaving behind.
